Broward County Florida encompasses an area that consistently ranks among the strongest entrepreneur growth in the United States. SCORE Broward has been serving the entrepreneurs and small business owners of Broward County for 55 years. Broward County recognized the efforts of the cadre of SCORE volunteers in assisting clients in starting and growing businesses by issuing a proclamation that declared May 18, 2019 SCORE Broward Day. The Proclamation below illustrates the impact that a dedicated band of men and woman can have on strengthening local communities but giving support to the small businesses that for the cornerstones of a community.

WHEREAS, SCORE Broward began 55 years as a chapter of the nationwide nonprofit SCORE Association, Inc. (originally called the Service Corps of Retired Executives) as an all-volunteer organization of business professionals dedicated to helping people looking to start, grow, or develop businesses; and

WHEREAS, SCORE Broward with its cadre of volunteers and its countywide geographical infrastructure provides business training, counseling, and mentoring to enable the creation and expansion of small businesses in Broward County resulting in increased revenues and new job creations; and

WHEREAS, SCORE Broward has special programs to support veterans, early education center owners, nonprofits, and Hispanic men and women entrepreneurs and business owners, and

WHEREAS, SCORE Broward clients over the past five years opened 2,060 new businesses and created 3,023 new non-owner jobs in Broward County; and

WHEREAS, SCORE Broward volunteers mentor clients who already own a business and 67% of those clients report revenue increases after interacting with SCORE, and

WHEREAS, SCORE Broward through its collaborative community partnerships educates over 5,000 residents of Broward County through 290 workshops each year, in venues provided by the Broward County library system, Keiser, Nova Southeastern, and Ana G. Méndez universities, Broward College, and Hispanic Unity, who all donate classroom space to support SCORE’S efforts to improve our communities; and

WHEREAS, Broward SCORE volunteers hold over 2,300 face-to-face mentoring sessions annually with Broward County residents: and

WHEREAS, Broward SCORE works with the Broward County’s Children’s Services Council, the Office of Economic and Small Business Development, the cities of Westpark, Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, Deerfield Beach and others to provide support and resources for their business development initiatives; and

WHEREAS, SCORE Broward in the pursuit of its mission to assist the development of entrepreneurs and small business men and women improves the stability of our Broward communities, by increasing business revenues, employment opportunities, creating and retaining jobs, NOW THEREFORE.
